Today as we got out of the car, this is the conversation I had with Samuel.
S: Mommy, I know what we should do.
M: What?
S: We should tell the orphans about Jesus.
(At this point I stopped all I was doing to listen and yes, I was multi-tasking.)
S: Because when I was in Africa no one ever told me about Jesus. No one told me I shouldn’t be mean to other people. Mommy, if they know about Jesus, everything will be better. Mommy, they NEED to know about Jesus.
Tears formed in my eyes as I realized he GETS IT! He knows what we need to do. And he is encouraging us to do it!
You see, this sweet little boy, my son, came to our family 8 months ago. He had never heard the name JESUS. I remember doing Bible study one morning with all 5 kids and I asked him if he knew who Jesus was. I remember his blank stare and him thinking about how he should answer. Then, he reluctantly shook his head. God he had heard of, but not Jesus. Not the Son of God who died on the cross for OUR sins. Not the one who came to save US. The one who came to save HIM.
Romans 10:14 – How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
