Everyone knows the backbone of this ministry. A child wanted to help another child.
A child saw hungry children and wanted to fill that need.
More and more of the children of the world are seeing the needs of other children. They want to step up and do SOMETHING. I pray more of us parents will follow our children, follow them to the heart of Jesus, follow them to the hungry children around the world.
Sydney received this letter last week.
This precious 7 year old boy sent it to her.
What was inside? An envelope with money.
Ethan gave his money to buy FOOD FOR KIDS. Does it get any simpler than that?
When Sydney and I traveled to bring Samuel and Helen home last November, we were delighted to meet these two sweet faces.
They were waiting on their family. A father, mother, brother and sister. That day came and they arrived on American soil on Christmas Day. Can you even imagine what a glorious gift?
Here is a friend of that family.
He just celebrated his birthday and asked everyone to make donations to two of his favorite organizations. Feeding the Orphans was one of them because we support the home his friends’ children came from. And the card with the little bags on the table were his favorite gifts.
This was his best present ever – children pulling money from their own treasures to help other kids that were left behind in “less majestic” living conditions. Eve & Alex already had their new brother & sister living with them – they didn’t need to look back any more at the poverty they had come from – but they did, with the Spirit stirring compassion in them. Ben was already out of that situation & living in fine comfort here in the US, but he has not lost his Kingdom Spirit of compassion for those friends he left behind.
Once again, I am reminded of the poor widow who gave so much. It seemed so little to outsiders, but to God it was so much.
Mark 12:41-44 – And He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And He called His disciples to Him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.
These children amaze me. They inspire me. They encourage me to do more, just like so many other children working to make a difference for another child. We challenge you to follow your kids, encourage them, and let them lead you to the fatherless, the orphan, the least of these. And we praise our God for parents teaching their children to love others like Jesus loved us.
We love because He first loved us. I John 4:19
